Dr. Laura Zelarayan and Dr. Maria-Patapia Zafeiriou joined the Department on July 1st, 2010. Dr. Zelarayan will lead a Junior Research Group on Developmental Pharmacology with a focus on Wnt-signalling and endogenous myocardial repair mechanisms. Dr. Zafeiriou will concentrate her research efforts on erythropoietin mediated myocardial protection and repair. (28.9.2010)
The Department of Pharmacology is responsible for Workpackage 13, Task 3 of the CARE-MI (CARDIO REPAIR EUROPEAN MULTIDISCIPLINARY INITIATIVE) large scale EU FP7 consortium. Project start: 1. A new article from the Department of Pharmacology entitled “PDGF-BB protects cardiomyocytes from apoptosis and improves contractile function of engineered heart tissue” has been published in the Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology. (7.5.2010)
Dr. Annette Heinrich received the Fritz-Külz-Award at the annual meeting of the German Society of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology in Mainz for her thesis entitled „Molecular Mechanisms of the Effect of the Mood Stabilizer Lithium on cAMP-induced CREB Transcriptional Activity”. Dr. Susanne Lutz, formerly at the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the University Heidelberg (Campus Mannheim), joined the Department of Pharmacology as the Head of the Pro-Futura-“GPRC-signalling Research Unit”. (01.2.2010)

Dr. Kathrin Wittköpper receives a Young Investigator Award at the Winter Meeting of the Heart Failure Association of the European Society of Cardiology. (29.1.2010 )

The „German Technion Society“ awards a research grant to Prof. Lior Gepstein (Haifa) and Prof. Wolfram Zimmermann (Göttingen) to exploit the potential of induced pluripotent stem cells to study hereditary cardiomyopathies. Dr. Oren Caspi (Haifa) and Dr. Malte Tiburcy (Göttingen) will lead the collaborative project. (01.01.2010)
